Using a rear-view mirror camera that detects light sources from oncoming vehicles, the Matrix function of the SUPERB’s full LED headlights masks out the high beam light distribution around them in real time with individually switchable LED chips in each headlight. This results in a perfectly illuminated road ahead and greater safety.
A winning combination of power, economic use and design is offered by LED headlights, available for the FABIA, KAMIQ, SCALA, OCTAVIA, KAROQ, KODIAQ and SUPERB. LED headlights use only highly luminous diodes as a light source. Their advantages include their longer life, greater resistance to shocks, lower power consumption due to high efficiency, and colour temperature more similar to daylight (and less tiring on the driver’s eyes). In other models, diodes are used for daytime running lights.
LED technology also plays an important role in the tail lights and can be found among standard or optional equipment in the FABIA, KAMIQ, SCALA, OCTAVIA, KAROQ, KODIAQ and SUPERB. The key benefits of LED include energy efficiency and, primarily, fast light-up that is mainly important for the brake lamps – the driver of the vehicle behind has more time to react. Other positive factors include long life and resistance to vibrations.
Selected models offer to combine full LED headlights and tail lights with dynamic indicators, which gradually light up from the centre to the edge. The main advantage is that other road users will find it easier to work out the driver’s intentions, resulting in greater safety. It is also an impressive design feature. Dynamic rear indicators are available in the SCALA, KAMIQ and SUPERB while dynamic front indicators are limited to the KAMIQ.
Adaptive front headlight AFS is an integral to the safety lighting systems. It controls the intensity and geometry of headlights for dipped beam. The lighting automatically adapts to the different driving situations (urban traffic, country roads, motorways and off-road driving according primarily to the speed of the vehicle), driving modes and weather. Consequently, it offers optimal illumination of the road and hence a higher level of safety.
This system automatically turns the high beam off and on. The multi-function camera recognises oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead in the darkness and Auto Light Assist automatically dips the beam so as not to dazzle other road users.
